French songs, sung in French, at a wedding in France

You are marrying in France partly because of what France sounds like. Then the music arrives from London or New York, and the only French thing in the room is the wine. Four songs change that. La Vie en rose and L'Hymne à l'amour carry Piaf. La Javanaise carries Gainsbourg. La Seine is lighter and more recent. Nourith is French and sings them in French, which is a different proposition from a visiting singer working phonetically through a chorus.

Questions

Which French songs does she sing?

La Vie en rose, L'Hymne à l'amour, La Seine and La Javanaise. Four songs sung properly rather than a long list sung approximately. They sit in the cocktail and dinner part of the evening, where the room is seated, half listening, and open to something it was not expecting to hear.

Our guests are American. Will they know any of them?

One of them, and that is exactly the point. Almost every American guest knows La Vie en rose and no other French song, so it is the door into the rest. La Javanaise, La Seine and the Piaf that follows all land after the room has already decided it likes what it is hearing. Played in the other order, the French set feels like homework.

Where in the evening should the French repertoire sit?

Across dinner, in one block of three or four songs rather than scattered through the night. A French set works when it has a beginning and an end and the room can settle into it. It also gives dinner a shape: an English-language jazz opening, a French centre, then the pace lifting towards the speeches.

Can a French song work for the ceremony or the first dance?

Yes. La Vie en rose and L'Hymne à l'amour both hold at the tempo a first dance needs, and either can be sung during a ceremony. The Way You Look Tonight, Dream a Little Dream of Me and What a Wonderful World sit beside them in English for a couple who wants both languages in the room. The arrangement is built to the length your moment actually needs, not to the length of a record.

Does she sing in other languages as well?

English, French, Hebrew and Arabic. Other singers in her ensemble cover further languages including Spanish. For a room mixing American, British and French guests, an evening that moves between English and French without stopping to translate itself is what keeps everybody inside the same night.

Why not book a French group locally instead?

You can, and many couples do. The difference is that one artist here covers the French repertoire, the English standards and the dancing under a single contract, booked direct with no agency commission on top. She is already based in France, so no international travel is funded before a note is played.
