The songs that open a floor, and the ones that keep it

A dancefloor is won or lost in the first three songs. Open too big and the peak lands at eleven with three hours still to go. Open too politely and the room sits back down and orders another coffee. After a French dinner your guests have been at a table for three hours, and they need permission before they need a hit. Nourith opens floors as a singer rather than as a playlist, reads what is standing in front of her, and builds the night from there.

Questions

What gets played when the floor opens?

Songs the whole room recognises, arranged in a rising order. September, Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!, Cupid, Happy, Uptown Funk, Shut Up and Dance, I Gotta Feeling and We Found Love are the core of the dance set. The strongest tracks are held back rather than spent in the first ten minutes, because a floor that peaks too early cannot be lifted twice.

Why does a live voice change a dancefloor?

Because people dance towards a person. A mix sits behind glass. A singer at the front of the floor is looking at your guests, and a room reacts to being seen. In the DJ-Live Experience from 4,000 EUR, Nourith sings live, joined by a DJ, other singers, saxophone and percussion, so the drive of a mix and the presence of a performance arrive at the same time.

Our guests span four generations. How does that work?

By moving between them rather than choosing one. September brings up the half of the room that has not danced since dinner, and the current tracks hold everyone under forty. A night built entirely on the last five years empties a floor of anyone over fifty by midnight, and those are usually the guests who travelled furthest to be there.

Can our guests make requests?

Yes, and it works far better agreed in advance. A short list of songs you want, and a shorter list you never want to hear, is more useful than fifty requests arriving after midnight. On the night the room is read live, and a request that fits the moment is played. A request that would empty the floor is not.

Who mixes for the dancing?

It depends on the format, and it is worth knowing before you book. In Solo Voice and DJ from 2,500 EUR, Nourith sings through the cocktail and dinner and then mixes for the dancing herself. In the DJ-Live Experience and the Live Band, a DJ and the musicians carry the sound while she performs. She does not mix in those formats.

How late can the dancing run?

To the hour your venue permits, and it should be planned rather than discovered. Many French estates hold a firm curfew and cut outdoor sound well before the party would end on its own. The set is built backwards from that hour, so the last song is a choice you made months earlier and not the moment the power goes off.
