Your wedding day, hour by hour, and what it sounds like

A wedding is not one performance. It is five, and they are barely related. A processional needs one voice and total silence. A cocktail hour needs music nobody has to listen to. Dinner asks for warmth without volume. The first dance is three minutes of exposure. Then a floor that has to fill inside two songs. Most couples plan the day and inherit the music. Here is the same day heard rather than scheduled, hour by hour, with the pieces that are sung at each point.

Questions

What is sung during the ceremony?

Ballads carried by a single voice. The order she performs most often runs Can't Help Falling in Love with You for the groom's entrance, At Last for the bride's, Stand By Me during the signing and L-O-V-E on the way back out. The Way You Look Tonight, My Funny Valentine, Dream a Little Dream of Me, Fly Me to the Moon, All of Me, What a Wonderful World, Your Song, La Vie en rose and L'Hymne à l'amour fill the moments around them. Four to six pieces cover the ceremony, from 1,500 EUR alone and 2,500 EUR with a trio. A live singer can hold the final phrase until the aisle is empty, which is the one thing a recording can never do.

What plays through the cocktail and the dinner?

Jazz and standards at conversation level. Fly Me to the Moon, All of Me, Dream a Little Dream of Me, What a Wonderful World and My Funny Valentine through the aperitif, then Time After Time, Killing Me Softly, Roxanne and Purple Rain as the room settles at the tables, with La Vie en rose, L'Hymne à l'amour, La Seine and La Javanaise for the French part of the evening. Nothing anyone has to stop talking for.

How many set-ups does a full day need?

Two or three, and each one is a transition your guests should never notice. A ceremony in a garden, a cocktail on a terrace, then dinner and dancing inside is three positions. The moves are timed with your planner so they happen while the room is occupied elsewhere, which is the practical reason one artist across the whole day is simpler than four suppliers with four arrival times.

Where does the first dance sit?

After the speeches in most French venues, and it is the hinge of the evening rather than a decoration. It is the moment the room stops being an audience and becomes a party, so the song is chosen for what follows it as much as for itself. The floor is opened immediately afterwards, before the applause has finished.

What opens the dancing?

Songs the whole room knows, in a rising order. September, Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!, Cupid, Happy, Uptown Funk, Shut Up and Dance, I Gotta Feeling and We Found Love form the core of the dance set. The order is fixed on the night rather than in advance, because a room of eighty family members does not start moving to the same track as a room of two hundred friends.

Can one artist cover every moment?

Yes, and that is what the formats are for. From 2,500 EUR, Solo Voice and DJ covers the ceremony, the dinner and the dancing with one person, and she mixes for the dancing herself. From 4,000 EUR the DJ-Live Experience adds more around her: Nourith sings live, joined by a DJ, other singers, saxophone and percussion.
